The question has been asked over and over again by many, “How do you stay current with web design and development?”. It is not easy! It takes time, dedication, and helpful resources. As a web designer and developer I spend half my time researching, and learning new things. This is part of my job, a never ending story of learning. It maybe design techniques one day, and coding the next, or whatever is trending at the time, but it is continuous. Just as technology and electronics grow and sprout new directions, so does the career of a web designer, but the only way to grow is to water your skills.
Ways I have learned to grow my skills vary. I like to read blogs, follow highly credited developers and designers on Social Networks, and watch video blogs on what’s new in Technology. I also setup a Google alert for Technology, so I get an email everyday with the top 10 articles of you guessed it Technology. I am constantly reading and trying new techniques. This doesn’t mean I use these new techniques or technologies all the time but if it tests true, and fits the solution to a problem it has a strong possibility to stick.
If you are new to this field you may not have known about these techniques for staying in the know. I was lucky enough to have a family of technical knowledge and guidance during my first years to tell me how to keep up, and I just wanted to share the advice.
